Criteria for Builder Membership
HBA Limited Warranty
Why Use an HBA member?
Consumer Affairs

All members of the HBA must abide by the Industry Standards set forth by the Board of Directors. These standards relate to the materials and workmanship to which local builders adhere under local building codes.

These standards are published in a professional manual and are included with the Limited Warranty Program. Their purpose is to help a new homeowner determine the validity of any potential question relative to defective materials and/or workmanship they might experience in a new home during the "Limited Warranty" period.

Only the most frequent items which concern new home buyers are addressed. If a home buyer experiences a problem or defect not found in these Industry Standards, it indicates only that the Industry Standards Committee has not reviewed and established standards for that particular item.

To the extent that minimum performance standards have not been enumerated in these Industry Standards, builders shall construct new homes in accordance with acceptable industry practices, which assure the home buyer quality workmanship and materials. Likewise, the validity of any complaint for which a standard has not been published shall be determined on the basis of acceptable industry practices, which assure the home buyer quality workmanship and materials; and any conciliation or arbitration of such complaint shall be conducted in accordance with this premise.

For convenience and ease of understanding, we have expressed these standards in terms of performance standards. Noncompliance with the performance standards beyond the acceptable tolerances calls for corrective action by the builder. The format for each section is designed as follows:
  • Problem - A brief statement in simple terms of the problems to be considered.
  • Acceptable Tolerance - A performance standard relating to a specific deficiency.
  • Builder Responsibility - A statement of the corrective action, if any, required of the builder.
The Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati is not a party to the transaction between the builder and his customers. The manual is a service to help eliminate confusion and clarify the quality of materials and workmanship to which Home Builders members adhere. It is the sincere desire of the Home Builders Association and the builder that the standards and guidelines contained in the manual will assist the home buyer in understanding and enjoying his new home.
