Posted August 9, 2021
Cincinnati, OH, Aug. 9, 2021: New single-family home permits in Southwest Ohio continued into historic territory in June, even though there was a slight decrease, reported the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati (HBA). For the first half of the year, all four Southwest Ohio counties tracked by the HBA experienced double-digit growth.
Overall, the Southwest Ohio region had a 32.8% increase in single-family permits YTD through June, compared to a 34.5% increase in May and a 33.1% increase in April.
Clermont County again led all tracked jurisdictions, with a 52.3% increase, followed by Butler County's 40.1% increase. Warren County was up by 29.5%, and Hamilton County permits increased by 16.3%.
A total of 1,954 single-family permits were issued through June of this year, compared to 1,471 in 2020, representing a 32.8% increase for the first half of the year. This is the first time in over a decade that all counties experienced a double-digit increase in single-family permits.
"In the first half of this year, the market was on fire," said Dan Dressman, executive director of the HBA. "Lumber and other material cost increases have cooled down the building process, but now that prices are beginning to soften, we expect an uptick in new activity," he added.
The top ten markets in the four-county Southwest Ohio region for single-family home permits through June were as follows.
